When I was a senior in high school I was asked to play for our teachers' Christmas party along with a pretty girl who played the flute. I put together some quick carol arrangements for piano and flute, and tried hard to concentrate on what I was playing rather than the captivating creature playing next to me. Twenty-some years later, I found that pretty girl again, and married her this time. She designed the cover of this album.
Greensleeves is an old, old folk song that lived many lives before becoming the carol we know today. Once or twice it was a love song. There is something inexplicably moving about this melody, this refrain.
